This weekend Paul Revere, singer of Paul Revere and The Raiders passed away in his Idaho home, CNN Reports. He was 76 years young at the time of his passing. Even though he has a historic name, it’s his true name; he was born as Paul Revere Dick. In his concerts the band and himself often adorned the clothing worn by the original Paul Revere, who made that night ride claiming the British are coming.
This Paul Revere had quite a legacy himself. His band formed in the late 50s and is still current today, even without him in the group and after his passing. There’s a bunch of songs that Paul Revere and The Raiders are known for, but our favorite is “SS 396,” a song about the beloved 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396.
The song starts off by claiming, “forget about your Hemis and GTOs, I’ve got a new machine and she really goes.” They go on talking about jacking up the suspension and all the chrome goodies underneath the hood. Even when they cruise the highway, they are getting all the looks from passerby’s. We agree, the SS 396 Chevelle is one car that everybody is jealous of, and one to be feared.
Just like the SS 396, Paul Revere was a game changer and we are sad to see of his passing. His song is one of our favorite cruising tunes, that just puts a smile on your face and makes you want to put the pedal to the floor!
Rest In Peace, Paul Revere.
