ModMen Challenge By Local Motors To Give 12 3D-Printed Cars Away

Technology has advanced to the point where nearly everything we can dream up is possible. Recent advancements in the rapid prototyping has allowed manufacturers and designers to see their 3D creations much quicker and easier. Local Motors is taking it one step further.

Local Motors calls themselves a global co-creation community. They are bringing microfactories to the forefront of innovation and intend to help global enthusiasts, hobbyists, and professionals solve local community problems. Local Motors is the company that created the first 3D printed car. Per their website, the idea behind the 3D printed car is to “make transportation more sustainable globally by empowering maker profitability, defending and advancing the environment, and improving safety and well-being.”

Local Motors is at it again, getting the community buzzing with a chance to win your very own 3D printed car. The ModMen Challenge is asking hot rodders, designers, and automotive nuts to modify a 3D printed vehicle just as they would any other custom vehicle. When the contest goes live in January, online voters will narrow the field down to 12 winners, voting ends in March. One of which will get the grand prize and the title of ultimate ModMan.

The 12 winners will get their prize, a real 3D printed car, in May. They will have about 6 months to turn the cars into their creations. Each finalized car will be on display at the 2015 Specialty Equipment Martket Association (SEMA) show.

“From racing, to street, to show, car modification has always been the true soul of vehicle innovation,” said Local Motors Co-founder and CEO John B. Rogers, Jr. “At Local Motors, our goal is to fuel the next great generation of ‘Hot Rodders’ by putting the newest technology in their hands, and the ModMen Challenge does exactly that. These are not just 12 cars customized with aftermarket parts, but a peek into the future of automotive re-imagination. I cannot wait to see how this group pushes the boundary of 3D-printed cars.”

Local Motors expects to have the first batch of highway legal 3D printed vehicles available in 2015. For more information on Local Motors and how you can get a chance to win your own 3D-printed car, head over to www.localmotors.com.localmotorsmodmen
