After a long time of working, it’s nice to get to the milestones of a build. This week on The Build, we see the American Modern crew begin to tear down the engine from their 1965 Malibu. A big deal and a major step forward, the Malibu project car is coming together nicely now! Check out the first part of the tear down in the video above.
After doing the leak down test last time on The Build, Rick Drewry and the American Modern crew knew they had some issues in the bottom end of the engine, but everything else was pretty much a mystery.
So this week, they took to the tool box and began tearing apart the engine piece by piece.
With components like exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads off, the crew was able to discern that the engine at hand was actually in pretty good shape. Aside from some scoring on the cylinder walls, which definitely could have contributed to the leak down test results seen last week, the majority of the engine looks to be in prime condition for an overhaul.
Next week on the build, the American Modern crew will tear down the engine even more. With new bushings in mind and all the other new components Drewry has up his sleeve, we can’t wait to see the new engine come together in the future! Check back next week for more from The Build.
