While the underbody of a car may be the least of your worries when it comes to a certain aesthetic appeal, it offers a canvas for real car buffs like nothing else. Anyone can have a car painted pretty, but does everyone have a vehicle with a squeaky clean underbody? Not really.

Adam Boca (right) from the National Corvette Museum Insurance Agency joined members of the crew, Brandon Hatton and Tiffany Ober, along with others, to sandblast the 1965 Malibu’s underbody.

This week on The Build, we take a look at the sandblasting process the crew went through to completely shed their Malibu’s underbody from years worth of road grime, rust and undercoating. Check it out in the video above.
Just like with the frame, the underbody of the Malibu was in desperate need of a good sandblasting after all the years of gunk had built up on it. So to help the crew of The Build out, Adam Boca from the National Corvette Museum’s Insurance Agency stopped by and gave them a hand with the sandblasting process.
Once the underbody was completely stripped down, the crew of The Build found more rust damage than was first seen, but with just tiny pinholes to repair, they have a couple options to get it patched up right.
Even though there was some rust damage, the next step is to spray the underbody with a coat of self-etching primer, to seal the metal and help prevent any rust happening in the future. From there, the American Modern crew will be able to tackle the rust repair job anyway they see fit.
Be sure to check back next Monday to see where the next episode of The Build takes us!
