While the crew at American Modern is perfectly capable of completing their 1965 Malibu project car on their own, they’ve welcomed some friends from Washington’s Kelley Insurance Agency to help them continue forward on their restoration project. So with a few extra hands, the crew of The Build is moving on to cleaning up the jams and trim area on the Malibu, as well as straightening out the dash for a clean interior finish. Check out all their hard work in the video above.
With wire brushes, screw drivers and grinders in hand, the crew first tackles the gummed up jams and trim areas, eliminating any debris that was still stuck on the car’s body and prepping them for future trim installation.
From there, the crew moved on to the dash, aiming to straighten the large metal piece where thanks to the car’s run-in with the brick wall, the driver’s knees dented the dash in.
Using a Porto-power, and the extra hands, the crew of the build was able to easily push out the dash to its correct position as well as bend the bottom of the dash to its correct angle. With that done, now the old instrument cluster fits nicely in place, save a few kinks in the metal that still need to be worked out.
The final project the crew of The Build took on this week was removing the last of the tattered metal left behind by the damaged chunk of the drivers side firewall.
This took a bit of patience and some air chisel skills, but in the end, the Malibu has come that much further to being road-worthy.
Check back next week to see what the crew of American Modern, and their guests from Kelley Insurance Agency are up to next on the ’65 Chevy.
