When tackling a frame-off restoration, removing everything from the base structure of the vehicle is a major part of the project, especially when the frame needs to be replaced. Over the last few months, our friends over at American Modern have faced this head on, tearing down their 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS. Recently the build team turned the corner from teardown to build up and now their facing one of the biggest projects of all. Check out how the crew prepped the old engine for the new frame in the video above.
As you may remember from the beginning of The Build, the crew at American Modern Insurance Group is up against a healthy project, especially with their Malibu’s frontend damage. One of the main problems with the car is that the frame is tweaked to a point of no return. So in preparation for the new frame, the American Modern crew recently pulled the engine from the frame and attached it to an engine stand to move forward with the build.
Once the engine was attached to a hoist, the crew worked diligently to unbolt the engine from the frame, making sure to get every last attachment loose before attempting to lift the engine. Once the engine was free, it was put on an engine stand and the teardown process began. Now with the engine and frame separated, the crew of The Build can focus on improving and tuning the engine, as well as prepping their GTO frame for its transplant job.
Be sure to check back next week as The Build crew takes on the first leg of frame work!
