No matter how much you spend on a paint job for your car, one thing can always ruin it no matter how well it’s maintained. Of course, we’re talking about improper body panel gaps.
This week on The Build, Rick Drewry welcomes National Corvette Museum Insurance Agency’s Adam Boca back to help him and the rest of the crew start piecing together the classic Malibu SS’s body, starting with the proper front fender gaps and door gaps. Check it out above!
Getting the proper body panel gap takes one thing above anything else and that’s patience. Luckily, the crew of The Build didn’t seem to have too many issues getting the Malibu’s doors to fit properly on their hinges while also fitting smoothly in line with the rear fenders of the car.
Where the group did run into a little bit of an issue was when trying to perfect the gap between the driver’s door and the front quarter panel. Of course, due to the damage the Malibu sustained previously, the front quarters had to be replaced, so the crew is dealing with aftermarket parts rather than the car’s original factory sheet metal. But with a little bit of finagling and an adjustment to the door hinges, Drewry and his team were able to fit the gap nice and evenly.
Be sure to check back next week as the crew of The Build continues on their body panel fitting journey!
