Now that the crew of The Build has gotten the majority of their Malibu’s body panels on and gapped as well as can be expected without extra body work, it’s time for them to continue adding pieces to the classic model to make it complete. Check out the next step in the puzzle of the 1965 Malibu SS in the video above.
This week on The Build, the American Modern crew is taking on the task of installing the inner fender wells. Pretty simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing for the project. In fact, because the new fenders are aftermarket components, they don’t quite fit into position correctly, making everything including the fender wells stick out in awkward places. But that doesn’t seem to phase Rick Drewry.
With a grinder in hand and a little bit of skill, Drewry grinds down the inner fender brace to make clearance room for the bottom of the fender to fit onto the Malibu properly. A proper fender fit and the inner fender well has an even better chance of fitting well as well.
With the front fenders on, the doors hung, hood fit square and the inner fender wells in place, the ’65 Malibu is really starting to look like a classic car again rather than just a shell of yesteryear. Check back next week to see where the Malibu project car takes the crew of The Build next.
