Dale Earnhardt’s black GM Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo is one of the most iconic and beloved NASCARS of all time. Aside from Richard Petty’s Superbird it’s perhaps the most recognized NASCAR. This black number 3 machine has not touched a track since 2001 is finally riding again. Who had the honor of piloting this legend? None another than Dale’s eldest son Kerry. He has had the honor of driving this legendary race car around the castle grounds at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Richard Childress Racing built the Generation 4 Winston Cup car which Earnhardt raced from 1992-2001. During this time the Intimidator would prove to be one of the strongest power houses of the 1990s winning both the 1993 and 1994 Winston Cup championships as well finally taking along awaited checkered at 1998 Daytona 500. He would also win several of the super speedway races such as Daytona, Talledeaga and the Pepsi 600 and frequently finishing in the Top 10 in standings. This particular car was raced during the 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup season which saw Dale finishing second in points behind Bobby Labonte.
Despite being tragic killed during the 2001 Daytona 500, his honor still continues to live on through NASCAR fans, fellow drivers and his sons Dale Jr. and Kerry. NASCARs greatest son gets to ride once again as Kerry celebrated driving his father’s legendary race car. In true American hot rod fashion, Kerry squeezed out every once of joy in this honor by doing big smoking burnouts and leaving large number 11s all over the Goodwood track.
