The pros at Roadster Shop are always doing cool things. Whether it’s building a killer custom or creating a high-quality chassis for the aftermarket’s hottest segments, they seem to really have their finger on the pulse of our hobby. When we saw this cool mockup of their new SPEC Chassis for third-gen F-bodies, we just had to stop by and check it out!

1982-1992 Camaro SPEC

Introduced as a part of Roadster Shop’s very successful SPEC series, this third-gen F-body chassis is a full-frame solution for Camaro and Firebird owners who are looking for a chassis that is lighter, stronger, and more precise than what came from the factory. Engineered from the ground up as the industry’s first bolt-on third-gen F-body chassis, it features proprietary suspension geometry that offers a great mix of ride and handling. That’s in addition to being affordable, user-friendly, and easy to install.

To Performance And Beyond

Take a close look at the third-gen Camaro SPEC Chassis and you’ll realize that, by proprietary suspension, Roadster Shop means they pretty much started from scratch. GM’s factory struts and torque arm have been eliminated in favor of a new independent front setup and a parallel 4-link rear. Under the engine, tubular control arms join forged knuckles, forged spindles, and a heavy-duty splined sway bar to both improve performance and open up the corners for bigger wheels and tires. Out back, a billet Watts link joins a second splined sway bar to further improve handling and, with the addition of mini tubs, allow up to a 355 tire.

Naturally, Roadster Shop sweated all the details, ensuring adequate room for steering components, headers, and a roster of common oil pans. A 16-gallon fuel tank, larger than what the factory offered, is designed to clear twin mufflers. Speaking of exhaust, integrated exhaust paths allow three-inch true dual pipes to be tucked under the car. Also, while the 1982-1992 Camaro SPEC Chassis is a full-frame build, it lowers your F-body’s ride height while maintaining factory ground clearance.

Easy And Customizable

In addition to being a complete, bolt-in solution that’s founded on Roadster Shop’s familiar “laser rails”, the SPEC Chassis includes 3D-printed jigs and templates for body mods. It allows owners to eliminate their car’s shock towers, cleaning up the engine bay and creating room for various power adders. The kit utilizes GM’s factory front cradle mounts, and a universal transmission mount fits most common transmissions. Finally, power rack-and-pinion steering complements a Strange 9-inch pumpkin that’s built with 31-spline axles.

Lighter, stronger, and far more advanced than anything GM put under a Camaro or Firebird in the 1980s, Roadster Shop’s SPEC Chassis gives third-gen F-body owners a legit path to modern performance without hacking their cars to pieces. Engineered with intention, built with real-world usability in mind, and designed to give these cars the kind of capability they always deserved, the 1982-1992 Camaro SPEC Chassis shows exactly why Roadster Shop is one of the most trusted names in the aftermarket. If their SEMA mockup is any indication, the future is looking bright for anyone ready to bring their F-body into a new era, one precision weld and splined sway bar at a time.
