Chevrolet Nationals: Day One Was Threatened By Rain That Never Came

If you remember anything about last year’s Chevrolet Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, you surely remember that rain put a damper on the Friday festivities. This year, the memories of weather will be a little different. While the weatherman predicted rain and the skies looked like they could open at any minute, the day was relatively dry. Occasional showers did keep some enthusiasts away, but those that decided to enjoy the day had a great time. While the sun never made an appearance, the overcast conditions kept the big orange marble’s heat at bay.

Unfortunately, the threat of rain did keep the spectator and participant numbers lower than expected, but we still found a lot of great looking cars to drool over. This year, the Carlisle Chevrolet Nationals were celebrating various models of Chevrolet cars, and we started our event perusal of the show field by checking out the Impalas. Inside Building T, the Impala was prominently featured, and there were even seminars all about Impalas for all enthusiasts to partake.

This year also celebrated the second-generation Chevelle. With its distinctive body, tapered front fenders and rounded beltline, these cars were a unique deviation from its first-gen predecessor. The SS 396 Chevelles of the second generation would come to be known as some of the most sought-after muscle cars of today. Many Yenko cars even made it to the show.
