Steeped in racing and performance history, the 1969 Camaro is one of the greatest icons from the muscle car era, and is sought after accordingly. Last week at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, 38 of these iconic cars crossed the auction block, including three Indianapolis Pace Cars, a couple X22 big-block cars and even a few with complete numbers-matching drivetrains.
While all of these were impressive and truly worthy of their Barrett-Jackson spotlight, it was the ‘69 Camaro RCR Series 3 car offered from Jimmy Richardson’s collection that really caught our attention. Thanks to this video we found on YouTube, you can see why this Camaro is so oggle-worthy.
The RCR Camaro that crossed the auction block at Scottsdale just over a week ago is serial number 3 of the five RCR Series 3 cars created. With the only “Intimidator” nametag of the bunch, this unique car features a Dynacorn body shell, ZFX aircraft composite/carbon fiber body panels, a special one-piece TPI hood, NASCAR “Car of Tomorrow” rear wing, and heavy duty suspension. Most importantly, however, is the car’s one-of-a-kind engine.
Powering the Intimidator is the very race engine that powered Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s No. 3 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo at several NASCAR events, including the 2000 Daytona 500. Since this engine is not street-legal, the car also came with an all-aluminum 427cui Chevy V8 capable of pushing over 600hp.

The incredible Intimidator car is definitely the ultimate car for any Camaro fan, collector or race enthusiast and one lucky winner took it home from Scottsdale for $350,000, with all the proceeds going to the Camp Debbie Lou Foundation.
Be sure to check out the behind the scenes video above to see how significant the Intimidator is and how the car came to be a part of Jimmy Richardson’s collection before being auctioned off at Scottsdale for a second time on January 21st.
