Recently found submerged in the dark depths of a lake located in New Port Richey, Florida, a Camaro stolen in 1999 has been recovered. Most likely residing in the lake for the past fifteen years, Sheriff’s deputies stumbled upon this unique find purely by chance during a survey of the area looking for potential stolen cars.
Beneath only ten feet of water, the forgotten Camaro was stolen a decade and half ago, from a local dealership that has since closed. Due to the area being largely undeveloped, until recent years with the growth of commercial and residential buildings, the Camaro would sadly go unfound until now.
With the appearance of a junkyard find, this sunken treasure has now been plucked from its hibernation and is currently residing at a local towing company. Employee of Smith Collision Services, Michael Smith, stated “More than likely I would imagine that this one is going to go to the crusher. But we will sell it to somebody if they want it.”
Well with that said, it appears all that ends well is well and thankfully this once submerged ride will be finding a new home with Brian Farmeri, Manager of C&C Rod Shop. Farmeri who has expressed interest in taking the Camaro back to his restoration shop shared, “It’s almost like a preserved car that has been hidden underneath the water for 15 years. It’s brand new, and it’s hidden. Nobody has ever seen it.”
With a plan in place, we are happy to report that with an estimated investment of around $30-40K and 1,500 man hours of work, C&C Rod Shop will be awakening this sleeping beauty and it will once again feel the warmth of a sunny day and will hit the open roads upon a full restore. A treasure of a find, what would you pay for this sunken find?
