If this 1966 Malibu looks familiar, that’s because not only was it featured right here on Chevy Hardcore in February, but it’s also the focus of the current Champion Spark Plugs King of the Road Contest. Owned by our good friend Mike Appio, this vintage Chevy is truly one-of-a-kind and now that it has made it into the top ten finalists for the Champion competition, Appio needs your votes more than ever!
While Appio’s ’66 Malibu may strike you as relatively stock from afar, just pop the hood and prepare to be amazed. That’s because stuffed between the fender walls you’ll find a roaring 572ci V8, fully dressed and ready to take on the competition. Acting as support, the Malibu also makes use of a Tremec T56 6-speed and a full Roadster Shop Chevelle suspension system, as well as Forgeline wheels and a large-diameter triangulated 4-bar rear suspension. This ain’t no grandma car, that’s for sure!
Being as amazing as it is, Appio’s Malibu has recently made the top ten finalist list for the Champion Spark Plug King of the Road Competition, a contest that pins enthusiasts’ rides against one another to see which vehicle is top of the pack, determined by online votes. Appio’s Malibu has been up against some tough competition so far, but the stakes are even higher now as the top-voted vehicles move forward with the final vote.
We absolutely love Appio’s pro-touring Chevy and can’t help but consider it tops in our book. So why not head over to the King of the Road contest page and vote for this astonishingly setup Malibu today?
After all, only one person can win the ultimate prize of $5,000 and we think it would be pretty dang cool if that person was one of our own Chevy Hardcore family!
Voting starts Monday September 9th for the grand prize money and runs through the 15th. Be sure to cast your vote HERE!
