Just a handful of years ago, the collector car market was going bonkers over even the mildest of American muscle cars. Today it is a much different story, with collectors and muscle car fans pulling back in a big way. Many muscle cars have seen their auction values halved, which has hurt the restorable used car market as well.
Unfortunately, not everyone got the memo. Over on the New Haven, CT craigslist is a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro for sale. While it certainly looks restorable, at least from what we can see, the asking price of $9,500 seems way too optimistic for this rusty project car.
It doesn’t help that there isn’t a lot of information to go on either. The ad states very simply that this is a two-door, V8 Camaro with an automatic transmission. The pictures tell the story of a long-neglected would-be project that is too rusty for the owner to bother repairing. Located in the cold Northeast, there is no telling just how bad the rust is on the exposed underbelly of the Camaro.
The surface rust is bad enough to warrant a seriously lowered price, and there are no photos of the interior or engine either. If they’re anything like the outside though, this Camaro could easily, easily cost upwards of $30,000 to properly restore, and it could cost way more if the rust is really bad. The nearly-$10,000 price tag is incredibly hopeful, and we predict numerous price cuts before this Camaro moves anywhere. It isn’t 2007 anymore folks.
