Kevin Hart is known worldwide for his stand-up comedy and his acting in blockbusters like Jumanji. However, he is also quickly becoming equally as famous for his taste in cars. Whether it’s his 1959 Corvette or his 1987 Buick Grand National, Hart seems to find the coolest cars and some of the finest builders to shape them to his automotive desires. Kevin Hart’s 1966 Chevelle, which started as an original SS 396 car, is no different. It is clean and mean.
Into The Darkess: Kevin Hart’s 1966 Chevelle
Work on the car dubbed “DarkneSS” was completed by Timeless Customs in Camarillo, California. What they created was a true work of restomod art. Built upon an Art Morrison chassis, the work involved keeping the car relatively “simple” but in the best kind of way. The clean lines of the Chevelle speak for themselves and no embellishment is needed. Body customization is subtle, like making the original hood scoops functional and adding a drip molding.
Emblems were exchanged for "Darkness" in the same type-face as the original Chevelle. The car has an understated and classic look enhanced by PPG paint in a factory GM black.
The menacing side of “Darkness” comes under the hood. The classic 396 was replaced with an LSX 454, topped with an LS9 blower. With seven pounds of boost, the car makes 620 horsepower to the wheels but is capable of much more. However, the idea was to keep the car drivable and comfortable. It makes plenty of power for cruising the boulevard or the highway. The 4L80 transmission adds to the driveability. The engine bay of the Chevelle is as clean as they come with fabrication from Timeless that truly highlights the powerplant.
Built For Comfort
A star of Kevin Hart’s level wants comfort, even in his hot rod. The interior of the 1966 Chevelle is as immaculate as you’d expect. It was outfitted by Gabe’s Street Rod Custom Interiors and features cut-down Recaro seats wrapped in grey leather with red trim. Timeless reworked the dash and added Autometer gauges. The interior features many special touches that add to the look and feel, as well as the comfort level of the car.

Kevin Hart knows his cars and his car builders. “Darkness” is an understated work of art that he will add to his collection. The guys from Autotopia LA obviously enjoyed driving it and we’d suspect Hart is enjoying it much more.
