Let’s say you just experienced catastrophic parts failure on the starting line when the spicy tune-up was just a little too much for your axles to handle—when you have to order a new set of axles the next day, do you know all of the measurements needed, including the axle hangout? If not, don’t worry, because this Moser Minute video will explain what you need to know when it comes to measuring axle hangout.
Before you even pick up the phone or fire up the computer to place an order for axles you’ll need some key pieces of information. The type of axle flange on your rear end is going to be the first thing you need to determine if you don’t already know it. To figure this out, all you’ll have to do is measure the center-to-center distance between the bolt holes on the axle flange. This will put you on the right path to determining your axle hangout before you order.
Now, there are some instances where knowing what type of flange you have won’t be enough…this is where the B-dimension measurement comes into play. Simply put, the B-dimension is the measured distance between the outside of an axle flange and the bearing stop on the rearend. Having the B-dimension handy wouldn’t be a bad idea when you have to order axles, in case the company you’re working with needs them.
