G Force C10 Crossmember Eases Header And Dual-Exhaust Woes

General Motors built millions of square body pickups, and they’re hot right now for restoration or resto-modding. A wide following of enthusiasts who grew up with them and had fond memories  — as well as young people who are exploring their charm for the first time — are lovingly restoring them or putting their unique custom touches on them. And it seems the aftermarket continually comes up with yet another part or accessory to enhance squares’ performance or make modifications a bit easier.

G Force Performance Products’ double-hump crossmember for 1973-1987 Chevy C10s and GMC C15 pickups allows dual exhaust to be easily connected to headers and remain tucked up out of sight. It’s ideal for both stock-height and lowered trucks.

G Force Performance’s double-hump crossmember for 1973-1987 Chevy C10s and GMC C15 2WD pickups is a replacement for the stock unit. Ideal for both lowered trucks and those with a stock chassis, it allows a dual exhaust system to be routed for simplified connection to headers while keeping the exhaust tucked out of sight above the frame rails.

Because it’s a direct replacement for the stock crossmember, for most transmission installations it bolts directly into the factory holes on the lower frame rail.  But the unique design allows it to accommodate many transmissions, including large heavy-duty transmissions such as a 4L80E, by merely repositioning it or drilling additional mounting holes.

A partial list of the transmissions that can be accommodated by the crossmember, according to the company, are the 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, 2004R, TH400, Powerglide, TH350, 4L80E, 6L80E, Muncie, T10, TKO, and T56. Some external-linkage manual transmissions may require additional modifications.

Related parts from G Force can help ease the installation, including polyurethane transmission mounts (left) and transmission mount shims. Made of aluminum, the shims can help adjust drivetrain and driveshaft angles. The shims are 1-1/4″ x 2-3/4″ in size, 1/8″ thick, and allow adjustments from 1/8″ to 1/2″.
