The last Sacramento Autorama was a blast. It confirmed our long held belief that at any given car show across the country, some of the best rides are not in the center of the action, but crouched down on the edges of the show.
The weather was iffy in Sacramento that weekend, so there was a low turnout for the outdoor portion of the show, but we did spot a very straight, 1955 Nomad in a tropical, mid-century moderne color combo of Coral and Gray.
The car has just 70k original miles and only three owners since new. Most all of the car is original, according to the owner, but sometime in the late-sixties, someone put a four-speed in the thing and added a dual-quad intake borrowed from a Corvette. Then, it sat in a garage for 47 years in a garage until being set free in 2015.
Today, the car looks quite fetching in the late winter, Nor Cal sun.
The color combo carries over to the matching interior with factory “Waffle Weave” inserts.
The current owner has gone to great lengths to make sure this survivor isn’t molested. The car has original sheetmetal, glass, and emblems, not to mention the invisible fingerprints of long gone, auto worker’s hands. It’s a memento of a mighty, post-war America, when GM ruled the Earth.
