Holley LS Fest East 2018: Day One Coverage Of The All-LS Show

Holley’s LS Fest is here again and like always day one did not disappoint. It was a non-stop entertainment all day, which included the autocross, a cruise, car show, drag racing, drifting and more. If for some reason you got bored with all of the action, you could take a stroll down the midway and spend hours there looking at all of the new goodies specifically designed for the LS world. Some of the biggest names in the automotive industry are here and willing to answer any questions that you might have regarding their products or you project car.

The most exciting event of the day without a doubt was the Chevy High Noon autocross shootout. As a stacked field of LS-powered muscle cars went out and did battle, the drivers were continually hot-lapping their cars for back-to-back passes on the course. Al Unser Jr. had double the driving duties, wheeling the Speedway second-generation Camaro along with a first-generation Chevy II. At the end of the day it was Mike DuSold and his P-51 themed Camaro that couldn’t be stopped. This car put on a show every time it went out and it was on rails. It went faster and quicker with every pass and was smooth as glass. Mike piloted the ’67 to victory and made it look effortless even with the star-studded field.

Over at the drag strip things were moving along quite nicely. Day one consisted of test and tune and first round qualifying runs. Cars of all shapes and sizes were out making passes, some good and some not so good. The field as it sits right now with all of the classes totals about 350 cars deep. Tune-ups appeared to be pretty conservative as the teams tried to get some data and a feel for the track. There was no shortage of wheels-up action, but we expect to see some blistering passes tomorrow.

Drifting is always a crowd favorite and as the super rowdy bunch took to the course they didn’t let the fans down. The incredibly noisy bunch took turns warming the cars and tires up by circling around and in a self-induced, high-rpm smokescreen. All that could be heard was the high-horsepower engines bouncing on and off the rev limiter begging for mercy. They then lined up and in a single file line made practice runs around the course in some sort of controlled chaos. Of course the crowd loved it even though the smoke was so thick you could barely make out what car was doing what.

If you love a car show with a ton of variety, then you should be here. With cars lined up at every twist and turn of the grounds, you can bet on seeing some pretty diverse and wild creations that wouldn’t be anywhere else than right here in Bowling Green. We’ve already witnessed just about every make and model of vehicle possible rolling through the gates and they are expecting more on Saturday. Whether your taste is in American muscle cars, imports or exotics, you can definitely find something to your liking. There is no shortage of power in the car show area either: turbos, superchargers, and six-speed transmissions are the norm, and of course LS engines and a few LT’s, as well.

With Day 1 in the books, everyone is excited for Day 2. Stay tuned for continual coverage as we search for some hidden gems here at Holley’s LS Fest and keep you posted on the latest happenings.
