The news that a Chevy dealership in the MidWest had been holding on to trade-in cars for 50 years swept through the car world like a shockwave, and for good reason. The saga of Lambrecht Chevrolet is a once-in-a-lifetime story of a dealership owner who, rather than flip the many car trade-ins that came onto his lot, held onto the rides. In the process it became one of the largest private collections of classic Chevrolets in the world.
We’ve so far seen just a few photos of this incredible Chevy find, but NBC News went inside the dealership in this video segment to give us a closer look at this legendary find.
The video shows how the Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership, located in remote Pierce, Nebraska, is like a literal time capsule, with many NOS parts and out-of-stock products gracing its shelves. But the real prize is the hundreds of classic cars, dating back to the 1950s, many of which were trade-ins, but some that have less than a mile on the odometer, having never been sold to a buyer.
Once cataloging is complete, the cars will be put up for a one-of-a-kind auction in September at the dealership. While there aren’t any outrageously rare cars crossing the block, there will be a number of low-mileage, totally complete Chevys that will be up for grabs. It would be a great place to pick up a starter project, a restoration gig, or just a few parts cars to save time and frustration.
But enough jabbering from us; kick back, open a brew, and try to pick just one classic car from this awesome collection that you’d want to buy.
