Video: RPM Transmissions’ Camaro Sets New IRS Fifth-Gen Drag Record

There is never any shortage of people aiming to break records, do the next big thing or dive into a project head first to come out on top. It’s the people who actually succeed in making this happen that are the real rock stars, however, and the guys at RPM Transmissions are riding that high life right now. As we found out from their post on Corvette Forum, the transmission company recently set a new drag strip record with their fifth-generation Camaro at Camaro5 Fest III. Check out the blistering pass in the video above.

Not unlike some of the other fifth-generation drag pass front runners, the RPM Transmissions Camaro is highly modified. But what you may find surprising is that it’s not a modified as some may think.

Under the hood you’ll find a 1,000hp Warhawk 427ci LS engine with All Pro LS7 heads, a Beck intake and a single stage nitrous kit controlled by Lingenfelter’s new NCC-001 controller. This monstrosity is matted to RPM Transmission’s own Level 7 4L60E transmission controlled by a PSC controller. Surprisingly, the transmission still maintains overdrive.

Other things you may be surprised to find out about the car is that it is still factory weight with full factory interior including the radio and yes, even air conditioning. The car also maintains its stock front brakes that work with C5 Corvette rear brakes to stop the car. A full 3-inch exhaust system with mufflers rounds out this unique speed-hungry car for a mix of true track beast and comfortable street cruiser. Oh, and we forgot to mention that it still utilizes an independent rear suspension.

Last weekend, RPM Transmissions took their Camaro out to Camaro5 Fest III and unleashed it’s power against a reigning fifth-generation record.

The result was a blistering 8.943-second quarter mile pass with a trap speed of 154.4mph.

Not only is that astonishing for a factory weight Camaro, it was also enough to set the new record for IRS fifth-gens. Congratulations goes out to RPM Transmissions for setting the new fifth-gen record. Now it’s only a matter of time before RPM will have to be defending their title against someone else aiming for the next big milestone.
