Muscle cars are all about sound and fury. Most of us are drawn to them because they are loud, fast, and raw and there is something about them that appeals to our more primitive side. So, its natural that we expect some hard-driving rock anthem to back up the tire-squealing and high-revving video footage of muscle cars in action. However, this Vimeo video shot by Eddie Smith and Dave McLean from Garage Creative Studios is something all-together different from what we expect.
“Brute Force” 71 Camaro, Detroit Speed’s 1969 Camaro test car, and Ron Schwarz’s budget 1966 Mustang among the cars featured in the video.
The video was reportedly shot at an autocross event in Geauga Ohio, and you might recognize a few of the cars in the video. We quickly spotted Bob Bertelsen’sRather than go for the expected quick paced racing video, Smith and McLean opted to shoot in slow motion with a Sony FS700 video camera. According to Sony, the FS700 is capable of capturing footage at the super-slow-mo rate of 960 frames per second, all in full HD. To match the tempo of the footage, the video is tracked by a big, soaring sound score that swells to a climax. (“My Tears Are Becoming A Sea” by M83) It might not be the typical Muscle Car video, but there’s a great cinematic quality about it that we really like. Smith and McLean still manage to capture all that muscle car sound, fury, and emotion even at a far different pace than most of us are used to. What do you think?
