Anybody can throw money at a car and make it perfect, but it’s only original once. Here is a very cool take on a patina heavy resto-rod from Autoholics. The idea was to get the best of both worlds, i.e., a car that was completely state of the art underneath but outwardly appears 100% original and untouched. That’s exactly what high end truck builder Jonathan Ward of ICON did with this 1952 Chevrolet Business Man’s Coupe, called “The Derelict”
Found on eBay, this ’52 Chevy is an 8,000 original mile car found languishing in a barn in Texas. From there, ICON equipped the car with an Art Morrison chassis, state of the art front and rear suspension, Wilwood brakes, and a 37 gallon gas tank. Motivation is provided by a 430-horsepower GM 6.2-liter V8.
The body is in its original, as found condition complete with dents, rust and thin, faded paint. The only give away that this car is definitely not stock, is the lowered stance and the modern rubber with CNC-machined steelie reproduction wheels. Because nothing was done to exterior, Jonathon says it’s a thrill to be able to drive and enjoy the car without having to worry about door dings, scratches, or where it’s parked. Ward says this sleeper surprises everyone who sees it, especially those who underestimate it at a stoplight.
