Chevrolet confirmed on March 9 that Jason Plato, Britain’s top touring car star, will drive a 2011 Chevy Cruze in the RML to defend his British Touring Car Championship. He finished runner-up to the championship in 2009 driving a privately run Chevrolet Lacetti. In 2010 he went on to clinch his second BTCC title driving a Chevy Cruze and equaled Andy Rouse’s win record of 61 race victories.
In an interview with bttc.net Plato commented quite a bit on the topic. He stated, “We just want to continue the good work we did last year. We were very dominant at the end of last year and we’re hoping to start where we left off. We’ve got continuity in terms of staff and are are starting from arguably the best position ever – at least in the three years I’ve been with RML.
“Will I win the championship again? I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think it was possible,” Plato said, “but there are some other good teams out there who have come on leaps and bounds since last year, meaning we’re in for one of the most competitive seasons ever. It’s great news for fans of the best racing series in the UK, and for the drivers who compete in it. It’s going to be a thriller.”
