There’s just some things you don’t mess with in America. We like good BBQ, rock n’ roll and our Chevrolets to be bad ass. When you start messing with any one of those things, you meet a whole lot of resistance. We all chuckled at Toyota’s Prius – especially when all the Hollywood windbags all traded in their blacked-out Escalades for the hybrid minibox – but when Chevy jumped into the mix, we were, well…skeptical.
Unfortunately, so has everybody else. Sure, there were a couple “big league” car magazines that gave the car premature rave reviews, but as the car finally started showing up on the roads and highways, the real world reviews revealed very different results. It’s not that we want the Volt to fall flat on its face, but we do want something of this caliber to represent America’s ingenuity and innovation.
TheFutureIsElectric.com does too. To prove that the Volt isn’t a short circuit, they took it to Laguna Seca for a couple of laps around the famous race track. Thankfully, the Volt is pretty capable of keeping a decent pace around the tarmac. It’s nothing to write home about, but for a nearly silent car whispering through the turns, it’s a sigh of relief.
