Stopping by the showcased collection of automobiles at the 2015 Goodguys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona, we couldn’t help but stop to take a look at Chuck Rowe’s 1937 Chevy. Winner of the 2015 Goodguys Street Rod of the Year, just one look and you can understand why it was chosen. Built by Bobby Alloway, this custom has the authentic touch from the winner of Battle of the Builders at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The top was chopped 1-1/2-inches, the front fenders were raised, and the hood was welded into a single piece. The doors on the Chevy were also flipped to suicide-style and the front grille was handmade by Jim Rench.

The PPG black paint on Rowe’s Chevy is beautiful, bringing out every swooping curve with great detail. This street rod sits on an Art Morrison chassis and tubular A-arm IFS and coilovers. Under the hood is an all-aluminum Chevy 494-cubic inch big block V8, complete with Chevrolet valve covers, an original magnesium stock fuel injection converted to EFI by Kessler Racing.

The sizable engine is mated to a G-Force six-speed transmission and a Winter’s Quick Change rearend. All of this greatness sits on an offset 17×7-inch front and 20×10-inch rear Billet Specialties ET-style wheels. Inside, Rowe’s Chevy features red leather Ford Thunderbird seats, door panels, headliner, and carpet stitched together by Steve Holcomb at Pro Auto Custom Interiors in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The dash was handmade and houses one-off Corvette telemetry, which was refinished by Classic Instruments. One interesting thing to note on this street rod is that the steering wheel, center console, and floor-mounted shifter were all downsized to give a more spacious look inside.

No matter how you look at this street rod, it is clear why Rowe’s Chevy took home the award for Street Rod of the Year. It’s a clean setup overall and the attention to detail is off the charts.
