Accelerator pumps on Holley carbs are one of the most misunderstood components by do-it-yourself type mechanics. The old adage of “it a little bit is good, then a lot is better” does not work well with accelerator pumps.
Holley has taken great efforts to make sure that home mechanics can understand and tune their Holley carbs by posting videos on their site that are easily viewed and understood by anyone. You can find all the Holley technical videos, as well as some pretty fun videos of Holley events, dyno runs and interviews, at HolleyTV.com.
In addition to accelerator pump size, getting the right pump cam is critical to optimized tuning of your carb. Getting the right amount of fuel, at the right time will make your engine much happier and run at peak performance. Too much fuel too early or too little fuel too late can really kill your horsepower and torque.
If you’ve ever had a lag or engine that bogged down when mashed on the loud pedal, this video is for you.
