Interesting what you can find when you are researching how to restore your vintage muscle car. For some enthusiasts, little things mean a lot. It’s all in the details.
One of the items that we happened to run across when researching restoration tips for a mid sixties Chevelle was the trim color on the tail cove panel. Some were painted the body color and others were painted black. This led to the question; “Which way is correct?”
We happened to find a video that addressed this very question. The folks at Ausley’s Chevelle Parts, an authority in Chevelles, put together a video that uses factory advertising materials to explain the differences. These guys do a real good job of explaining the who, what and why of Chevelle questions, but in this case, the jury is still out on the black paint or not for the tail cove panel.
[*Editor’s Note: Typically, we believe the black cove panel is correct on all Chevelle Super Sports, and it should be body color on non-SS models.]
