Building a “big” car that can launch the tires is definitely something different.

Well, here we are. It’s once again Thursday, and that means we get to take a look back in the vault, and locate an article that you guys might have forgotten about, but we think will surely enjoy. This week, we jump back to April of 2016, and take a look at a prediction. Back then, we were trying to decide what non-musclecars could end up being the “next big thing,” when we published Five Obscure Chevy Classics For Your Next Project Car.

A Chevette, really? Why not?

Choosing a project car that fits your style, doesn’t usually require a lot of contemplation. If you like the style of the first-gen Camaro, that’s what you buy. If you think a Chevelle would make the perfect hot rod, then you have many choices. But what if your dream project is either financially out of reach, or, every available prospect you locate is going to take more work than you are able to handle? You my friend might need to expand your thought process and see that coolness can be achieved with many other project choices. What’s more, building something other than an established, or normal hot rod, elevates your ride to an entirely different level of cool.

Often mocked by many, the third-gen Camaro can me made into a great cruiser, show car, or even racer.

When we first put this article together, we were certain that many of you guys probably never gave some of our suggestions a second glace until you saw the article, and that’s okay. We knew we were going out on a limb with a couple of the options we presented, but we were also hoping to create some new ideas.

Take for instance the Chevette. This little seemingly disposable mode of personal conveyance is probably never going to be considered a “mainstream” hot rod project. But why not dare to be different? While we highlighted one example of what was possible with Chevy’s little econobox, the fact that many of them rotted into oblivion makes us realize that not many guys pursued building a hot rod from the small T-body car.

Although not on our first list – a terrible oversight, the C10 pickup continues to grow in popularity.

If there was one thing we made perfectly clear in the original article, it was that we were not calling any of these musclecars. Let’s face it, we included a Chevette. But, just because they don’t fit the traditional understanding of what constitutes a musclecar, doesn’t mean the examples we showcased couldn’t be made into cool hot rods.

So, even if you are not certain that the cars we listed in our original piece of edit could be made into cool projects, Take a look at the original article, and maybe it will give you a little inspiration to build a car that stands out from the norm, can be built to deliver the qualities of a fun cruiser, and give you a ride that you can be proud of.
