What defines the Chevy brand? Is it expanding technology, new vehicle models and unique slogans? Or is it the iconic classic cars of the past that everyone can name that define the gold bowtie? While other car manufacturers have had some notable classics in their days, I think we can all agree that the classic Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes, Bel Airs and Novas will forever make Chevy stand out.
With everyone talking “green,” electric and higher fuel economy ratings these days, these cars of the past may not seem to be on Chevrolet’s radar anymore.
As we found out from Business Insider, it wasn’t too long ago that Chevrolet was actually resurrecting some of their old models in the form of a billboard ad campaign that canvassed Detroit. It seems as if Chevy may agree that their earlier models play quite the defining role for the company after all.
The amazing billboards were spotted by Business Insider back in 2010, and while Chevy had just coined the slogan “Chevy Runs Deep” not too long before, the automotive manufacturer steered clear of modern brand messaging. Instead, the billboards, seen all over Detroit, used images of some of Chevy’s most recognizable classics and paired them with quirky one-liners.
Sure take you back, don't they?
Sure, we’re progressing and getting more power, better fuel economy and more creature comforts in our new cars these days, but we’ll bet that 50 years down the line we won’t be looking at the Cruze Eco or Sonic as classics.
While we hope that cars like the modern Camaro and Corvette can continue bringing the “classic” era to future generations, Chevy’s defining days may have already come and gone. We’ll have to wait a few more decades to see it that’s true or not. So for now, enjoy this collection of throwback billboards. They will definitely be having you fall in love with Chevy all over again.
