The hot rodding culture is more than the cars we admire and build. More often then not, below the surface, it’s about the people behind the builds. It’s the contact and social aspect that draws in the people. Whether you’re uber wealthy or dirt poor, if you’re a builder or car owner, chances are you’re just like everyone else. That’s the true meaning of what being apart of the hot rodding community is like. As automotive journalists, it’s our responsibility to spread the message any way we can.

So, it’s no wonder when car events are announced, their greater purpose is in fact to serve and help another. Case in point, this year’s So Cal Nova BBQ, graciously sponsored by TCI Engineering on April 6, 2013 from 9am-4pm. What was once just a forum get-together, held at one Nova owners home has spawned an all-new following. Its growing popularity is drawing in all sorts of new Nova’s from all over.
The best part, this year it’s totally free to attend and with so many aftermarket manufacturers clamoring to attend, each entry receives one raffle ticket, good for prizes and giveaways at the event. What’s more, with plenty of food (Catering provided by Canyon City BBQ) vouchers and T-shirts available for purchase, the So Cal Nova BBQ, sponsored by TCI Engineering, will also be able to donate 100 percent of the proceeds to another greater good – The IronMen Foundation.
The IronMen Foundation
If you aren’t familiar with the IronMen Foundation, it’s sole purpose is to help with aid to victims of lost family members who have served our country. To quote the IronMen Foundation directly, “In the War on Terror alone, thousands of children have lost a military parent. When a parent is gone, so too is the congratulation from a proud dad after a Little League game. Gone are the heart-to-heart conversations after tough days at school. Gone is the nurturing advice from a Mom or Dad about troubles with a boyfriend or girlfriend. What’s more, years later, gone is the families ability to provide for a higher education.”
The Foundation website continues, “The IronMen Foundation can’t take away the pain, but, with the help of appreciative, caring Americans like yourself, we can minimize the loss by providing for our heroes’ childrens’ educations. That is the sole purpose of The IronMen Foundation. We shamelessly solicit your participation in our efforts on behalf of these kids.”
As you already know, 100 percent of the proceeds will be benefiting the IronMen Foundation. However, T-shirts for the event are available in a multitude of sizes, which means that even if you aren’t able to attend, purchasing a simple T-shirt will still help the foundation. Furthermore, additional donations can be made the day of the event.
