The Saratoga Automobile Museum’s newest exhibit, entitled Speed – Style – Legacy: The Corvette Story, is set to feature six Corvettes from the GM Heritage Collection. While officials have yet to announce exactly which Collection vehicles will be displayed, the cars will be some of the rarest and most historically significant Corvettes ever built.
In case you haven’t noticed, the GM Heritage Collection has many exceptional Corvettes listed on its website. Production gems include a 1-of-300 1953 roadster, a 1 of roughly 1,000 1972 LT-1 roadster, and a 1 of roughly 5,000 1966 427 coupe. For those who might not know, 1966 was the first year of 427 Corvette production. When it comes to concept cars, the Collection becomes even more exclusive, with icons like the 1961 Mako Shark, 1969 Manta Ray, and 2009 Stingray sitting alongside technical masterpieces like the 1968 Astro II, the 1973 Aerovette, and the 1972 XP-895. And we’re not talking about the regular, steel-bodied car. The Heritage Collection’s XP-895 is the second, all-aluminum car that was constructed with the help of Reynolds Aluminum.
We are incredibly excited to share this journey through Corvette’s history with our visitors. This exhibition not only highlights the stunning, road-going Corvettes that have captured the world’s imagination, but also the iconic race cars that cemented Corvette’s legacy in the world of motorsports. It’s going to be a celebration of American ingenuity, passion, and performance. — Megan Hennessey, Director of the Saratoga Automobile Museum
