You’ve probably heard about Ridetech’s new MOMENTUM chassis for 1968-’72 Chevelles. But you might not know that the firm also offers MOMENTUM subframe assemblies for the first-generation Camaro and, as of this writing, the second-generation Camaro (and Firebirds, of course).
Ease And Endurance
Engineered to fit all 1970-’81 Camaros and Pontiac Firebirds, the MOMENTUM subframe features improved suspension geometry and a one to three-inch lower stance while offering up to two inches of increased wheel clearance. According to Ridetech, the idea was to fit larger tires under the front of the car and accommodate anywhere from 5 to 9 of caster. That clearance, and the better turns it provides, occurs despite the piece being a 100 percent bolt-in solution that maintains Chevrolet’s factory track width. What’s better, the MOMENTUM second-gen F-body subframe is ISO 9001 certified and built right here in America.

The Specifics
Every MOMENTUM subframe includes one-piece billet 6061-T6 upper control arms, billet steering arms, and billet tie rod ends for superior strength. All that hardware is hung opposite a massive main crossmember that, with the help of a large front sway bar, eliminates the need for additional crossbracing. That design, along with an adjustable transmission crossmember that fits most of the hobby’s popular manual and automatic transmissions, creates clearance and compatibility for a variety of powerplants. At the corners, tubular lower control arms, which feature eccentric adjustment, control caster, camber, alignment, and body roll.
The Options
Buyers will need to choose between pin or hub spindles, with pin spindles fitting original equipment discs and hubs allowing the installation of modern discs. MOMENTUM features a variety of engine mounts, including small-block Chevy, big-block Chevy, LS, Gen V LT or Pontiac blocks. And buyers can also choose between Fox Factory coilovers or Ridetech’s Shockwave air bags, with both the coilovers and the bags featuring the option of single or triple adjustability.
One Step Further
In addition to being 40 pounds lighter and 15 percent stronger than a factory unit, Ridetech’s MOMENTUM subframe is designed to accept rack-and-pinion steering upgrades, which further improves weight distribution. Improved header clearance allows for a variety of exhaust solutions. Selecting the MOMENTUM subframe that is hub-compatible sets your build up for C5, C6, or C7 hubs with C5 or C6 brakes and, if needed, all brake line tabs remain just where the factory engineered them.
Ridetech’s MOMENTUM subframe for second-gen Camaros and Firebirds proves that modern performance doesn’t have to come at the expense of classic style. By combining precision engineering, American manufacturing, and bolt-in simplicity, Ridetech gives enthusiasts the chance to turn their vintage F-body into a corner-carving restomod. Whether you’re running a small-block, big-block, or modern LT powerplant, this setup delivers the stance, strength, and performance that keep old-school muscle firmly planted in the fast lane.
