Radial Tire Nova Art: Grant Tuttle’s Twin Turbo 1967 Nova

West coast nostalgia racer Grant Tuttle made his presence known in the radial tire racing world late last month when he had Ty Tutterow pilot the blown Camaro he had purchased from Barry Mitchell at the Sweet 16 in Georgia. Tuttle will soon jump behind the wheel himself, with an equally impressive machine being finished for Radial vs The World duty. The 1967 Nova that Tuttle will drive is being finished up by Mickey Tessneer at Mickey’s Chassisworks and when complete, the car will be pure radial tire racing art.

Tuttle is no stranger to speed, he has been racing in the A/Gas ranks for some time and saw the action in the small-tire world as something he wanted to try. After going to one of Donald Long’s events at SGMP with Tessneer, Tuttle decided that his original plan to go No Prep racing wasn’t going to work and he wanted to jump into Radial vs The World.

According to Tessneer, the Nova’s chassis came to his shop and needed some work to make it a truly amazing piece.

“This chassis started out as a homemade deal when Grant brought it to us. We began working on the chassis and converted it to a 25.2 certified double frame rail chassis. We reworked the front half of the chassis, added Lamb Components shocks, struts, and brakes to it along with a Tim McAmis Performance Parts full floater rearend. To go with all of our in-house built suspension parts, we added a Mark Williams Enterprises anti-roll bar in the rear. The body on the car is a fiberglass Tim McAmis 1967 Nova that we had painted by Andrew Teal in-house as part of our new turn-key car program.”

To go with all of the great chassis work Tuttle added a 481X from Steve Morris Engines that will get its boost from a pair of 102mm Precision turbos. Controlling the engine and other functions of the Nova will be a full FuelTech FT600 system. Providing the gear changes will be an M&M Transmission.

Right now the plan is for Tuttle to get used to driving behind the wheel of the blown Camaro under the guidance of the Tutterow clan. Once the Nova is ready, the team will begin shaking the car down and show what this absolutely stunning car can do.
