There are race cars, and then there are race cars. We found this incredible ’65 Chevelle over on Racing Junk for a sale price of $50,000, and while that’s a ton of cash to spend on anything it looks to be worth it to us. The blower that’s crawling out of the hood is a massive 14-71 Littlefield supercharger hooked to an all-aluminum 529ci Rodeck engine backed by a Bill Taylor 2-speed Powerglide. The chassis is a certified 6.0 (6 second), new in 2009, with a chromemoly back-half and has had a total of only 21 1/8-mile passes on it. The entire front clip, doors, deck lid and bumpers are all fiberglass, so combined with the massive rat motor it should be able to outrun an SR-71 if need be.
We love this thing for a few reasons. First, it heralds to a different time. This Chevelle could be considered a tasteful and full on race version from the old Pro Street movement in the ’80’s. We like the clean straight body, the mirror-black paint job, and the fact that the factory Chevelle SS trim is all present and accounted for, wheel arch moldings and all.
It doesn’t have nitrous, doesn’t have turbos, and isn’t in any way aerodynamic. It just uses the best of the best equipment to race the old fashioned way; make it light, put a ton of motor in it, and back half it to get some meats in there. That’s it.
The owner will sell for $50K as a complete driver, or as just a roller for $30K. Either way, we think it’s worth it!
