We couldn’t help but get starry-eyed when we spotted this wicked salt flats racer over on Racing Junk. Embodying the original spirit of the height of hot rodding in the 1950’s this shoebox Chevy is a super clean and cool machine, but something that is 100-percent purpose built. Don’t think you can drive to the local super market for some milk and eggs in this thing.

This Bonneville racer has seen plenty of time and is certified B/CGC machine touting a 384-inch Dart small block topped with Brodex SB2 heads, and a full roller valvetrain. The mighty mouse is fueled by a Product Engineering fuel system, and backed by a TKO 5-speed transmission with a Lakewood bellhousing, Hays race clutch, and spinning a QuickChange rearend.

The ’55 rides on a modified Art Morrison chassis rolling on custom steel wheels with Dunlop racing tires, a full roll cage and fitted with all current safety equipment (as of August 2010).

To date, the Chevy’s best time was 198.576mph on August 16th, 2010. Listed as “complete turn-key” and “ready to race,” the vendor lists the car for the hefty sum of $115,000.
