Choosing the right wheels for your car is just as important as choosing the perfect body modifications and paint scheme. Not only will they help get you where you’re going, they will also give your car a unique look and stance. That’s why loyal Rushforth Wheels customer, Mike Yale, recently switched up the rims on his‘70 Camaro to Rushforth’s brand new Overkill design. While Jason Rushforth, owner of Rushforth Wheels and designer of Yale’s Camaro, admits that the ten split-spoke design isn’t for everyone, we really like how they look on Yale’s car in the photos posted on Pro-Touring.com.
Featured in the October 2009 issue of Camaro Performers magazine, Yale’s Camaro is a power to be reckoned with. Fitted with a Chevy 6.2L LS3 engine matted to a T56 five-speed transmission, the car is capable of 436hp. In addition to the crate engine, Yale’s Camaro is equipped with a Ford nine-inch rear end with 4.10 gears, Lemons long-tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers.
A full Detroit Speed suspension was also put on the car, including a hydro-form subframe, tubular A-arms and coilovers in the front, and a Quadra-Link setup in the rear. Stopping power comes from Wilwood six and four-piston calipers.
With the car intended for some extreme pavement carving, it needed proper wheels and tires. With Rushforth and Yale working together, the pair originally fitted the Camaro with a set of Rushforth Whiplash wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich rubber.
While the Whiplash wheels had plenty of style with a unique seven spoke design, Yale recently traded them in for 18-inch “Overkill” wheels that Rushforth just released for 2012. With the Overkill wheels’ unique twist on the classic ten spoke design, featuring slits that run all the way down each spoke, these wheels are certainly full of attitude.
Obviously, everyone is going to have their own taste in wheels just like they do for any modification, but we really like the way the new Overkill wheels look flush against the Mercedes Benz Brilliant Silver paint of Yale’s Camaro. With the motorsports season kicking off this month in some places, we can’t wait to see Yale’s Camaro complete with Overkill wheels out there tearing up autocross courses this year!
