There is product placement, and then there is product placement, and few companies are as adept at getting their products camera time than General Motors. Strong Camaro sales were certainly helped by the Transformers movie tie-ins, and the General has quite the lineup of Autobots ready to save humanity once more…including Pablo Montoya’s NASCAR.
Yes, it’s true. Called “Leadfoot,” this leader of the human alliance will debut in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which comes out this new summer.
How do we know? Because pictures of a Target-exclusive toy have been leaked to the Internet via TFW2005 and Flickr.
Pablo Montoya certainly is a General Motors fan, having recently sang the praises of his Chevy Volt (which we wouldn’t be surprised to see make an appearance either, as the Volt, named “Jolt” appeared in the second installment).
On the NASCAR track he drives the $42 Target Chevy Impala, which apparently is the cover/disguise for Leadfoot.
This mysterious new Autobot hasn’t come to Earth alone either, bringing his mechanical mutt Steeljaw along for the ride. Steeljaw works triple duty for Leadfoot, serving as a mace, flail, and missile launcher.
In other words, these guys are ready for a fight. This toy should be available exclusively at Target…which makes us wonder what other secret characters GM might have in the works for the (hopefully) final chapter of the Transformers movie saga.
