Chevrolets have seen their fair share of glories on tracks across the country for decades now. We also have counted on them time and time again to pace our beloved race car drivers as the official pace cars. One of the most notable, and popular Chevy pace cars is the Camaro. Whether it was the first generation Indy pace cars or the brand new fifth-gens, the Camaro has always brought the nostalgic muscle car presence to the track. To own one of these official cars is nothing less than special.
If you’ve ever wanted to own an official Camaro pace car, you are in luck. A ‘97 Brickyard Edition Camaro will be gracing the auction block at the upcoming September St. Charles Mecum Auction.
As the official pace car of the ‘96 Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the ‘97 Camaro got special Brickyard graphics over the Artic White exterior. Only 49 of the cars were ever made and only 12 were sold to the public. The one up for bid is the #17 track car and comes with its official track paperwork.
Complete with convertible top and leather interior, the Camaro comes with air conditioning, cruise control and parade boot. Power accessories on the car include windows, new brakes, seats and top. To keep this 14-year-old car running strong, it has been equipped with a new exhaust and new intake gaskets. It also recently had a full service done to it.
While it may not be a classic ‘67 pace car or a brand new one, this Brickyard Edition Camaro is truly unique and a great addition to any pace car, or Camaro collection. If you’d like to bid on the car, it will cross the auction block on Thursday September 15th. Stay tuned to Mecum’s website for a specific time for the lot to be released.
