As luck would have it, sometimes you just have to be in the right time at the right place. In the restoration hobby, it’s all about who you know and flexing some of your networking abilities in order to get the scoop on a vintage or rare find. In our case, we too were in the right place at the right time when we came across this ’70 Chevelle find on Chevelles.com. If you’ve got a fancy for these big-body Chevelles, chevelles.com should be your source for updates and stories from other enthusiasts.
In this case, we got word of a rare, ’70 LS6 Chevelle. We couldn’t believe it either until we pulled up the page. There it was, an original LS6 Chevelle. So how did this all play out? According to the post, a Chevelle.com member’s family member was notified of a possible Chevelle sale and traveled to take a look. After verifying its authenticity, it was purchased and brought back home.
According to Chevelles.com, this particular find is a ’70 Chevelle SS, complete with the rare 454ci big-block LS6 albeit with an automatic transmission.
It was originally purchased in Missouri, well-documented, well-optioned and even included the protect-o-plate with the car. All service records, too, were kept with spare parts.
The original owener purchased the car brand new when he was just 16 years old. After driving the vehicle for a couple years, unfortunately, he blew the original engine. Under warranty, the engine was replaced and then sat until 1974. Unbelievably, the Chevelle only acquired 40,000 miles on the clock.
Of course, that’s not all either. The original factory-perfect, build sheet came with the purchase as well. The build sheet shows that this particular Chevelle came with the infamous cowl hood, chrome valve covers, low profile intake manifold and Holley carburetor.
It was also outfitted with true dual exhaust, the TH400 transmission, 12-bolt rearend with 4.10:1 gears, heavy duty radiator and deep groove pulleys.
The F41 suspension package was fitted as well as a T60 HD battery, V31F bumper guards front and rear, Z15 SS packaged, UF1 mirror lamp, hood stripe package, D55 console, J50 Power brakes, G80 posi, JL2 power disc brakes and U35 electric clock. As you can see, this was a full outfitted version of the venerable LS6 Chevelle.
As of now, the new owners are still verifying some of the other paperwork including, why the replacement engine was pulled from the engine bay as well as some other inconsistencies. However, with the extent of documentation included with the purchase, the new owner has his work cut out for him. We can only that this is a real LS6 Chevelle. In the meantime, the new owner has parked the Chevelle next to his other collection of vehicles including, a numbers matching ’69 Z28 and a numbers matching ’69 Chevelle SS396.
