As our long-time readers can attest, we tend to focus more on street performance than trackside antics, but this story was just too good to keep to ourselves. They say truth is stranger than fiction. That may be true because in this case, there is a plot twist that until now, could only be scripted from Hollywood. In true, you have to see it to believe it, we give you the cheesiest story ever…
Several weeks ago, in a scene that would be perfectly suited for the fictional roundy-round flick, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”, while at speed, NASCAR driver Josh Bilicki slammed into signage promoting Wisconsin-based Sargento Cheese. Rather than obliterate the sign, Josh touted the advertising on the front of his car as he moved around the track during a NASCAR race on July 2, at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Something interesting happened while the folks at Sargento visited Bilicki asking for their sign back. Apparently, they did a little bit more talking, and as a result, cheese magnate Sargento has just announced that they liked their logo on the front of Josh’s Camaro so much that the company will sponsor Bilicki during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen Raceway in Watkins Glen, New York on August 20.
Bilicki and Sargento call Wisconsin home, so gaining “hometown” sponsorship centered around cheese is a BIG deal. Bilicki shared his thoughts on the recent occurrences in a press release, “As a native Wisconsinite, I have enjoyed Sargento products for many years. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason.”
Bilicki doubles up on his driving duties, driving the number 44 and 45 NASCAR Chevy Camaros for Alpha Prime Racing. Bilicki introduced himself to Sargento while driving the number 44 car. In this case, Sargento will be the primary sponsor while Josh wields the number 45 Camaro around the track later this month.
