When it comes to owning great, classic Chevrolet muscle cars, the Camaro is one that tops the list. The pony car is an icon in the car hobby, and it takes a special car to climb to the pinnacle of a model. Such is the case with the ’69 Z28. Arguably, it’s tough to beat the perfection in automotive design.
If you are in agreement, have we found something special for you. Feast your eyes on this ultra-rare Z/28 that also features the RS package. The DZ-302 engine that came with the 1969 Z28 is the stuff of legend, and this combination is numbers matching. The inclusion of the optional Rally Sport package to this Hugger Orange example puts it into a realm of exclusivity rivaled by few other factory hot rods when it rolled off the assembly line nearly 50 years ago.
This example has received a concours-level rotisserie restoration, verified by a large binder of documentation and receipts. In 1969, the Camaro received new styling with a sportier look that included styling changes to the grille, rear quarter-panels, and nose, that resulted in what many consider a more menacing, aggressive stance. By adding the Rally Sport appearance package, features like hideaway headlights, an Endura front bumper, a special grille, different rear tail-light lenses, back-up lights in the lower valance, and special badging on the front fenders were included.
The special suspension with quick-ratio steering and reproduction F70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires lend to the factory-correct appearance, and the Hugger Orange with a white vinyl top and signature white stripes creates a truly desirable condition.
Inside, the impeccable, white vinyl interior features stacked Rally gauges, front bucket seats, Soft Ray-tinted glass, and wood-grain applique to the glovebox, three-spoke steering wheel and center console.
If you agree that this truly is a rare factory hot rod and would like to see its value – or maybe – decide you have to own it, you can check it out at the Mecum Auctions website, as it’s for sale this weekend. Who knows, maybe it could end up in your garage.
