Kevin Harvick’s old ride is heading to the Mecum Auction on Jan 28, 2011 to raise money for special needs children. The car was originally purchased by a family whose child is now attending Cooke School was a former student at Old Village School and was taken to car shows to help raise awareness about the students and programs offered at Cooke and Old Village schools.
The car show tour will end in January of 2011 after which the car will be sold to the highest bidder live on the Discovery Channels HD Theater popular Mecum Auctions show in Kissimmee, Florida. All the proceeds will go to the Cooke and Old Village schools. The generous people at Mecum Auction are also donating their time and support to this worthy cause.
The auction listing states that the retired 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Shell Pennzoil Car was raced by Daytona 500 champion #29 Kevin Harvick at Atlanta and tested at Indianapolis, Charlotte and Michigan. It runs the SV2 racing engine and has an estimated 750 HP. The chassis is #93 from the Richard Childress stable.
The donor who originally purchased the car transported it to the two schools where the students were able to see, touch and pose with it. They also received special racing hats donated by Richard Childress Racing, the NASCAR team for which Harvick’s drives, and also by Mecum Auction Company.
The Cooke and Old Village schools provide individualized programming for more than 300 students with special needs. The students include children and adults who are severely cognitively impaired and who also may have motor, communication, physical, sensory and emotional impairments that make it difficult for them to learn in a general education environment. Due to the severe budget cutbacks that have taken place in the state of Michigan, the school has lost funding it needs to operate. The proceeds of the sale of the #29 will help give the school back some of the much needed funding.
