Just when things start looking up for General Motors and the auto industry, we get news like this. Reuters is reporting that General Motors is being sued by a Pennsylvania woman who claims that GM told dealerships to repair a defect in the rear spindle rods of the 2007-2008 Impalas designed for police use. The defect would apparently cause the rear tires to wear at a faster rate.

According to the report, GM built about 24,000 police versions of the Impala in the 2007 and 2008 model years. “There are no relevant material differences between police vehicles and class members’ vehicles relating the defective spindle rods,” the lawsuit said. The lawsuit is claiming that GM chose not to issue the same repair/recall for the 2007-2008 Impalas.

This would mean a lot more than just bad press for General Motors if this was true. During that two year period General Motors sold over 423,000 Impalas. The lawsuit is charging GM with breach of warranty and demanding that they repair or replace the rear spindle rods. The Reuter’s report goes on to say, “Donna Trusky of Blakely, Pennsylvania, the plaintiff in the lawsuit, bought an Impala in February 2008, but after 6,000 miles, the tread on the car’s rear tires were so worn that their use was “questionable”, according to the lawsuit.”

If found guilty this means that GM would have to pay to fix over 400,000 Impalas. The report states that there has been many complaints from Impala owners about the suspect tire wear, but now we want to hear from you! If you own a 07-08 Impala have you seen this issue that the woman is claiming? Or do you think it is just her driving habits? Leave us a comment below and let us know what you think.
