As anyone knows, the most common enemy to speeders are the boys in blue. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of movies to prove it, and for a while it seemed that Johnny Law had a hard time keeping up with those of us who tended to be a little more enthusiastic when it came to evading them. From 1997 and up until a few years ago, all they had to rely on was the underpowered and overweight Ford Crown Vic to chase down vigilantes in Corvettes and Vipers.
But that’s all changing now, and we’re going to have to learn the headlights of the new Taurus and Caprice on top of the late-model Impalas, Tahoes, and Chargers that have also been patrolling highways and city streets for the past few years.
Recently, we’ve come across the L.A County Sheriff Department’s 174-page evaluation of every 2011 model year patrol cruiser available. This includes every possible variation of every aforementioned vehicle above, and to say it’s very thorough would be an understatement. It’s clearly an example of how anal and selective the L.A County Sheriffs can be, as they’ve been doing these evaluations since 1974.
An interesting side note from the provided information courtesy of Autoblog, the new Caprice PPV has a reported curb weight of 5,339lbs. As thorough as the cops can be, we pray that’s a typo, otherwise, that car’s 355hp will be next to useless.
