In Case You Missed It: 2014 Camaro Reveal and the Return of an Icon

In case you missed it yesterday morning, Chevrolet revealed the 2014 Camaro at the New York International Auto Show. Lucky for you, the company has since uploaded the reveal of the next muscle car to YouTube, and it brought more of a surprise than most expected. But you don’t have to take our word for it. Just check out the official Camaro reveal in the video above.

2014_camaro_reveal_video_6Enthusiasts have been waiting for the 2014 Camaro reveal since the fifth-generation car made its debut in 2009. Along with hopes for the future car came guesses and hopes for the return of the iconic Z/28 – a car built for performance on and off the track. While with the early fifth-gens we saw the ZL1 make its grand return, as well as the SS and 1LE models, there was no true Z that hit the market.

Following the reveal of the 2014 Camaro, which has been moderately restyled to include a larger opening in the front fascia, Recaro seats and a functional hood scoop for the SS models, Chevrolet’s Mark Reuss made an announcement about yet another car the company was revealing. Without much to-do, Reuss summoned the next great muscle car to the stage- the return of the Camaro Z/28.

Certainly styled with aggression that sets it apart from your more moderate street cars, the Z/28 promises a lighter body, more power and better street-to-track agility.

“And we took a lot of weight out of this car. We ripped out the trunk carpet and insulation. We installed thinner glass for the rear window. We made air conditioning optional. And we removed all the speakers but one. I wanted to take them all out, but you have to leave one so you can hear the seat-belt chime.,” Reuss stated in the presentation.

The new Z is estimated to produce 500 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque with its LS7 V8, so hold on tight! Chevy’s prepping for major performance battles in the future…
