The elicit barn-car dream lives on for many automotive enthusiasts across the world; the dream that one day you’ll find a rare or pristine car stored in a barn for years and sold to you for pennies on the dollar. Recently we ran across a website that is dedicated to showcasing barn finds found all over the country. While the site has been around for awhile now, their photos and barn find stories are always changing.
The website is called CarsInBarns.com. While there are many subcategories dedicated to different automotive manufacturers on the site, we are partial to the Chevy section called “Bowties in Barns.” In this section we found hundreds of photos of Chevrolets rotting away in people’s yards, stored in barns and sitting dormant- waiting to be restored by someone. In this section there were also many Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles. No matter how they are categorized, most of these images are heartbreaking- showing these cars in deplorable conditions. Unfortunately, many photos show cars that are too far gone to restore, no matter how much work is put into them.
While many of these cars fall short of the barn-car dream, they all have a story on how they got to where they are now. Most photos have some information about the cars with them. We’re glad that some of the stories include people who have tried, and will continue to, buy these cars off the owners to start the restoration process. Other stories include new owners that were successful in purchasing a rough barn-car and are working to bring the car back from the dead.
The people behind the Cars In Barns website encourage people to send them photos of their personal barn-finds and any information they have about the cars. So, if you’ve got a barn-car story to tell, head on over to CarsInBarns.com and submit your story. You can also visit the website if you just want to browse through all the barn-finds that people have come across. If you are faint-of-heart when it comes to the horrible treatment that some American classics are subject to, we warn you, this website is not for you.
