With Bonneville Speedweek rapidly approaching, we wanted to celebrate Holley Performance Products‘ contributions to a couple of world records held by the legendary Vesco team.
Rhonnie Vesco was honored to receive Utah Salt Flat Racing Association’s “Fast Lady” trophy for her record setting one way speed of 314.418 mph at USFRA’s annual awards banquet. After completing her licensing runs at the 25th Annual World of Speed event, Rhonnie commanded the ever so sleek Team Vesco #444 streamliner, powered by the Al Sanderson 304 c.i. Small Block Chevy, to the fastest speed record set at the meet at 310.981 mph. This speed propelled Rhonnie into the prestigious 300 mph chapter of the 200 mph Club.

Team Vesco holds the speed record of World’s fastest wheel-driven car at 470-mph when Don Vesco piloted “The Turbinator” to an FIA absolute WORLD wheel driven record of 458.481 MPH and top speed of 470 MPH in 2001. Don was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame shortly after his death from cancer in 2004. The cancer prevented Don from realizing his dream of being the first over 500 MPH in a wheel driven car. But Team Vesco is determined to carry on.
At Speed Week this year Vesco’s #444 streamliner will attempt a new B/FS record (engine size between 373.0 to 439.99 cid, naturally aspirated running on fuel – other than event gas) using an Al Sanderson 434cid engine with a single Holley carburetor. Dave Spangler will be the driver. The formidable 12 year old current record in the class is 344.114-mph.
Team Vesco continues to push the boundaries of speed with Holley Performance Products providing the fuel/air mixture to these lethal performance vehicles. When the next record falls, we will undoubtably see it fall to a Chevy engine topped with a Holley carburetor.
