It is not every day that you can become the proud owner of an official NASCAR racecar. But Mecum Auctions is giving NASCAR fans that exact opportunity with one of the latest lots added to the upcoming Dallas, Texas auction. Not only is this the official Army Monte Carlo in full racing livery, it is the historic second-place finisher of one of the closest Daytona 500 race finishes in history.
At the 2007 Daytona 500, Mark Martin was leading the pack into the final lap in the #01 Army Monte Carlo, nose to tail with several other drivers. Kevin Harvick, a driver behind the lead pack, started a run on the outside for the finishing lap, successfully gaining a lead position among the front runners. After the yellow flag wasn’t thrown for a wreck behind the lead pack in Turn 4, Harvick nosed the line just .02 seconds before Martin, making him the Daytona 500 winner that year by not even an inch and the Monte Carlo part of the closest Daytona 500 finishes since 1959.
The Monte Carlo racecar is offered at the Dallas auction exactly as it was prepared for the 2007 Daytona 500 with complete custom NASCAR graphics. The car still maintains its authentic Hendrick 358cui small block and heavy duty 4-speed manual transmission.
Even if you aren’t a NASCAR fan, this historic race finisher will add stature to any car collection. If you are interested in bidding on this one-of-a-kind historic NASCAR racecar, it will cross the auction block on Friday, October 7th. Bidding will take place at 7:30p.m.
